♞ KnightIQ

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 August 2026

The short version. KnightIQ has no accounts, no passwords and no tracking. It reads chess games that are already public, keeps your progress in your own browser, and never sees your card. There are no ads and no analytics, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone.

What we collect

WhatWhyWhere it lives
The chess username you typeTo fetch your games and to tie a subscription to an accountYour browser, and Stripe if you subscribe
Your public games, profile and ratingsTo produce analysis and trainingFetched live; not stored on our servers
Your progress, settings and lesson historySo the app remembers where you wereYour browser only
Email and payment detailsTo take paymentStripe only — we never receive them

What we do not do

Cookies and local storage

KnightIQ does not use tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to keep your progress, your last session and a short-lived note of whether your subscription is active. That data stays on your device and is readable only by this site. Clearing your browser data clears it, and your progress goes with it.

Chess.com and Lichess

When you enter a username we request that account's public profile and games from Chess.com or Lichess. We only ever read what those sites already publish. We never ask for your password to either site and could not use one if you gave it to us.

Requests may pass through our own server so the browser can read the response. We do not log the contents.

Payment

Payment is processed by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach us. When checking whether your subscription is active, we ask Stripe about the chess username attached to the payment — nothing more. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify, who process standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) as part of serving any website. See Netlify's privacy policy.

How long anything is kept

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EU, the GDPR gives you rights over your personal data: access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and objection. In California, the CCPA gives comparable rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

Two practical notes. Most of what KnightIQ holds about you is in your own browser, so you can delete it yourself by clearing site data. For anything held by Stripe, email us and we will pass the request on.

To exercise any right, or to complain: knightiqhelp@gmail.com. UK and EU users may also complain to their national data protection authority.

Children

KnightIQ is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used the service, contact us and we will remove what we can — though in practice almost everything sits in that child's own browser and clearing it removes it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will say so on the site. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
